Unemployment benefit

Unemployment benefit is intended to partially compensate for your loss of income when you become unemployed. In order to become eligible for unemployment benefit, you must first register as a job seeker at NAV.

In Norway, like everywhere else your chance of quickly getting a job increases, the more flexible you are regarding the type of job you're applying for and where you could work. It's always wise to start looking for work as soon as possible.

  • To be entitled to unemployment benefit, your working hours must usually have been reduced by at least 50 per cent. You must also live and reside in Norway, be willing to do any kind of work in addition to be registered as a job seeker at NAV (the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Admninistration.
