OFFER DESCRIPTION

There is a vacancy for a PhD Research Fellow in medical physics at the Department of physics and technology. The position is for a fixed-term period of 3 years with the possibility of a 4th year with compulsory other work (e.g. teaching duties at the department). The position is financed by the Research Council of Norway through the project “Bioproton – Reduced toxicity in proton therapy through biological optimization”.

About the project/work tasks

The candidate will play a central role in the Bioproton project where the overall objective is to reduce the risk of toxicity in proton therapy through development, validation and application of novel biological models and dose optimization systems for proton therapy. For the PhD candidate, the tasks in the project will include analysis of available data on the relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of protons, Monte Carlo simulations of biological doses in proton therapy and development of improved optimization strategies for proton therapy treatment plans.

The candidate will work in an established radiotherapy research group at UiB. With tight connection to Haukeland University Hospital and the Western Norway University College in Bergen, as well as other national and international partners, the current PhD project will be based in an interdisciplinary research environment with established expertise in the field of proton therapy.
