Offer Description

Description: The successful candidate will join the MAIAMI project (Plataforma Multimodal de Inteligencia Artificial para la Innovación Acelerada de Materiales), funded under the 2025 call “Proyectos de Investigación en el Ámbito de la Inteligencia Artificial” of the Agencia Estatal de Investigación. The project is developed in collaboration between IREC and ICN2 and aims to integrate Artificial Intelligence into experimental design and simulation workflows to accelerate the discovery and optimization of advanced materials for energy applications.

Within the SEMS group at IREC, the main objective is the implementation of an automated experimental platform integrating advanced robotics, materials characterization systems, digital twins and AI-based decision-making algorithms for accelerated research. The platform will incorporate explainable AI approaches capable of guiding experiments, interpreting results in real time, generating predictive models of materials synthesis processes, and refining experimental strategies under a Human-In-The-Loop framework.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will provide support in the coordination of the technical development of the automated platform, including:

  • Design and implementation of automated and robotic workflows for materials synthesis and processing.
  • Integration of advanced characterization techniques for energy-related materials.
  • Development and validation of prototypes and experimental modules.
  • Implementation of control software and data management systems for the automated laboratory.
  • Development and deployment of AI algorithms for adaptive experimental planning, optimization of experimental space, and automated knowledge extraction.
  • Contribution to the generation and validation of digital twins for materials synthesis and property prediction.
  • Technical coordination of project activities within IREC and interaction with ICN2 partners.
  • Supervision of technical staff and junior researchers involved in platform development.

Contribution to project management, technical reporting, and dissemination of results.

Required documents:

Applicants must submit the following documents by email to irecjobs@irec.catmguc@irec.cat and jsortiz@irec.cat, indicating the reference “offer Ref26-033" in the subject line of the email.

  • Curriculum Vitae, specifying the completed degree and any relevant professional experience.
  • Motivation letter.

Offer of job position:

We offer a R2.1.5 position for 38 months in the framework of the MAIAMI national research project funded by the “Agencia Estatal de Investigación”.

Salaries will be paid in accordance with IREC’s salary policy, depending on the candidate’s qualification and professional experience
