Offer Description
Applications for 2 years Post-Doc contract at the Physics & Astronomy Department of the University of Bologna (Italy) are invited, for a research project with title : “A numerical survey of the magnetisation of the cosmic web by feedback mechanisms”.
This project wants to asses how much can baryonic feedback (i.e. from star formation and active galactic nuclei) contaminate the measurements of primordial magnetic fields in cosmic voids and filaments. The candidate will reduce model uncertainties by producing new large cosmological simulations of the magnetic outputs from galaxies in the ENZO code, which will test realistic implementations of baryonic feedback from the literature. This project is part of the Synergy Grant COSMOMAG which has the ambitious goal to uncover the origin of cosmologia magnetism and develop a unified theoretical framework to connects the generation of magnetism in the early Universe to present-day observations, through its evolution over cosmological timescales. These predictions will be tested primarily through gama-ray, radio, and gravitational-wave observations.
Ideal applicants should have a strong experience in cosmological MHD simulations (preferentially with Eulerian codes), in the study of Faraday Rotation and other observables of cosmic magnetism, and in the study of baryonic feedback mechanisms.
