Offer Description
A call is open for the award of 1 Research Fellowship(s) under the GECAD Unit – Research Group in Intelligent Engineering and Computing for Innovation and Development, with reference UID/760/2025, funded through national funds included in the FCT budget and, when eligible, co-funded by European Union funds, under the following conditions:
1. SCIENTIFIC AREA
Electrical and Computer Engineering, or related
2. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum profile required: degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or similar. Write and speak proficiently in English. Good teamwork skills. Good knowledge in Robotics and Autonomous Systems areas.
Preferred profile: Training experience and academic work in the field of Robotics and Autonomous Systems will be valued.
3. DURATION
The fellowship will have a duration of 6 months, starting in April 2026, and will eventually be renewable, up to the limit provided for in the RBI-ISEP.
4. OBJECT OF ACTIVITY / WORK PLAN
The work plan involves the following tasks:
- Learning various robotic platforms acquired by GECAD (workbench with COBOT URe3 robotic arm, Booster T1 and Unitree G1 humanoids, and UBITEC Cruzr robot);
- Support for the integration of AI systems on the indicated platforms in terms of R&D projects or solutions to challenges combining Robotics with AI;
- Support in the use of other Electrical Engineering equipment;
- Active participation in meetings with supervisors and research teams;
- Provision of all source code of the software developed within the scope of the scholarship and user manuals for this software and developed hardware schemes;
- Preparation of scientific articles and reports, including the final scholarship report;
- Activities related to communication and dissemination.
5. APPLICABLE LEGISLATION AND REGULATIONS
Statute of the Research Grant Holder, approved by Law No. 40/2004, of 18 August; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, approved by Regulation No. 950/2019, published in the 2nd series - Part C, of the Official Gazette, of 16 December 2019, Regulation of Research Grants of ISEP, Decree-Law No. 66/2018, published in Official Gazette No. 157/2018, Series I of 16 August, approving the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions and Decree-Law No. 60/2018, of 3 August, which simplifies the administrative procedures necessary for the pursuit of research and development activities, all in their current wording.
6. SCIENTIFIC GUIDANCE AND WORKPLACE
The work will be developed at ISEP, at the GECAD research unit, located at Rua Dr. António Bernardino de Almeida, 431, 4200-072 Porto – Portugal, under the scientific supervision of Professors Carlos Fernando da Silva Ramos and Agostinho Gil Lopes.
7. MONTHLY MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE
Monthly scholarship fee: € 1,040.98, paid by bank transfer (according to FCT's table of values: https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.p… ), supported through PAD No. C71449.
8. METHODS OF SELECTION AND COMPOSITION OF THE JURY
The selection method will take into account the merit of the candidate, classified according to their suitability to the conditions of this competition, analysed through the following components: final classification of the degree (30%), Interview (20%), evaluation of curriculum vitae (50%).
The jury responsible for the selection process will consist of:
• Professor Carlos Fernando da Silva Ramos (President);
• Professor Maria Goreti Carvalho Marreiros (Member);
• Professor Agostinho Gil Lopes (Member),
• and Professor Diogo Martinho (alternate Member).
9. FORM OF APPLICATION SUBMISSION
Applications must be formalized by e-mail sent to csr@isep.ipp.pt, with acknowledgment to mgt@isep.ipp.pt, agl@isep.ipp.pt, (please mention in the subject of the e-mail the reference of the notice (GECAD 2026-01) by sending the following documents:
• Curriculum vitae;
• Motivation Letter;
• Certificate of qualifications / Document proving the ownership of the academic degree and diploma, of the respective recognition when it has been awarded by foreign higher education institutions or document proving the request for recognition;
• Proof of enrollment in study cycles conferring or not conferring an academic degree (except BIPD); (edit according to admission requirements);
• Other supporting documents considered relevant.
If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the act of hiring.
10. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Applications are received from 13 to 26 March 2026.
11. FORM OF PUBLICATION/NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS
The results of the evaluation will be announced by email, to the email address indicated in the application process.
12. COMPLAINT AND APPEAL PROCEDURES
If the result is unfavourable, candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the disclosure of the results of the evaluation of applications, to make their opinion, if they wish, in a prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms provided for in the Code of Administrative Procedure.
The final decision referred to in the previous numbers may be filed with the President of ISEP within 15 working days after the respective notification.
13. SELECTION BOOKING
ISEP reserves the right to appeal to unselected candidates, in order of ranking, to hire a scholarship holder within the scope of the same project through the withdrawal of the initially selected candidate.
