Application for a Master holder Fellowship
within the “Ciência + Cidadã” Program

Applications are invited for a MSc Holder Fellowship, as Project manager, under the scope of Ciência +Cidadã Program, coordinated at the ITQB NOVA in close partnership with Oeiras Municipality. 
Scientific Area: Citizen Science, Science Communication and Social Sciences, plant, health, environment, microbiology and related areas

Academic degree: Master and Bachelor in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Plant , Genetics, Medical Sciences or related areas.

Other requisites: 
- Experience in Science Communication and Citizen Science projects;
- Experience in project management;
- Experience in organizing events;
- Participation or volunteering in scientific events;
- Motivation for contributing in scientific research and field work;
- Fluency in English with experience in writing and oral presentations;
- Good organizational skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Organizational ability to handle multitasking;
- Being enrolled in a non-academic degree course, by the time of contract signature, in accordance with the Article 6th of “Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. from FCT”, law in force.

Work Plan: TheThe three-month project aims to complement the training of graduates in citizen science, science communication and project management. Specifically, the the candidate will work in tasks such as (i) administrative and logistical support within the scope of the activities of Ciência + Cidadã Program; (ii) be responsible for organizing content for newsletters, websites, social media, and reports for the Ciência + Cidadã Program;  (iii) support the organization of the different planned activities (establishment of partnerships with different institutions, recruitment of citizen scientists, organization of  cocreation workshops, focus groups, participatory visits, among others); (iv)  dissemination of activities and results; (v) write and present periodic project progress reports; (vi) ensure compliance with the projects schedule; (vii) be responsible for organizing content for newsletters, websites, social media, and reports for the Ciência + Cidadã Program; (viii) manage the logistics of participation in conferences and events related to the Ciência + Cidadã Program and monitor the various ongoing citizen science projects.During this period, the candidate to be selected will have the opportunity to collaborate and learn with researchers, science communicators and project managers from ITQB NOVA and Oeiras Municipality, participate in national and international science and citizen science communication training and conferences, make oral presentations, write articles, acquiring practical experience while being challenged to suggest well-founded strategies to achieve the proposed objectives

Working Place: The work will be carried in the Scope of Ciência + Cidadã Program at the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Oeiras Experimenta field at Quinta de Cima do Marquês de Pombal, Município de Oeiras, under the supervision of Doctor Maria João Leão (Ciência+Cidadã Program)

Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have the duration of 3 months (with the possibility of being renewed), expected to start in April 2026, on a full-time basis, according to Fellowship Regulations of Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P.

Stipend amount: 1309.64 € according to the table of values of grants awarded directly by the FCT, I.P. in the Country (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.p…) and payment will be made, monthly, through bank transfer.

Selection procedure: The evaluation procedures will be based on the analysis of the candidates´ CV and, if needed, an interview for the selected candidates may take place. In this case, the curriculum evaluation and the interview will have a weight of 80% and 20% each.

Juri composition: Doctor Maria João Leão (President), Doctor Maria João Tavares, Doctor Marta Santos (Effective members), Doctor Elisabete Brigadeiro (Substitute member).

Application documents: The application should be formalized with (a) a cover letter indicating the corresponding fellowship reference, (b) the detailed Curriculum Vitae, (c) Motivation letter of 1 page maximum, (d) a degree certificate and (e) reference name and contact. All documents should be preferably sent by email as a single pdf file.

Notification of candidates: All the candidates will be informed of the final result by e-mail.

Deadlines and procedures for complaints and appeals: If the result is not favourable, the candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the disclosure of the results, to comment, if desired, in a prior hearing of interested parties, in the terms provided for in the Code of Administrative Procedure.
