Offer Description

(12) Months, Fixed Term, whole-time post

Applications are invited for the post of Post-Doctoral Researcher in the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences (BEES) and the MaREI Centre in University College Cork (UCC).

The project aims to undertake a scientific desktop study examining the conservation status of seabirds and marine mammals in the south and southwest of Ireland. For species where there is evidence of local or regional population declines, the project will examine the best available evidence for prey preferences and prey requirements of those species, and to gain an understanding of whether those requirements are currently being met. The project will include a number of stakeholder engagement activities to gather views and qualitative/quantitative information on the subject area and to document these views and perspectives through analysis and reporting of the information gathered.

Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI’s.  This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher.  Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEI Researcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association

Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.

Project Title: Analysis of seabird & marine mammal population status in coastal South-Southwest Ireland

Post Duration: 12 months, whole-time post.

Informal enquiries can be made in confidence to Dr Mark Jessopp email: m.jessopp@ucc.ie or Professor Emer Rogan: email: e.rogan@ucc.ie School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences.
