Offer Description

It is hereby made public that, by order of the Rector of the NOVA University of Lisbon, Professor João Sàágua, dated February twelfth, two thousand and twenty-five a recruitment procedure is hereby opened for the hiring of one (1) Senior Technician under an individual employment contract for an uncertain term, for the within the scope of Project ICDT 15681-RANKIT, with an expected duration until nine of august of two thousand and twenty-six, which may be extended by decision of the funding entity FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology, I. P. – FCT, I. P.). The present recruitment procedure is governed by the provisions of the Labour Code and by the Regulation on careers, recruitment and employment contracts of non-teaching staff under an employment contract regime of NOVA Medical School – Faculty of Medical Sciences, of the NOVA University of Lisbon (Regulation no. 577/2017, of 13 October, published in the Official Gazette [Diário da República], 2nd series, no. 210, of 31 October), hereinafter referred to as the Regulation.

1 – Place of Work

The workplace is located on Faculdade de Ciências Médicas|NOVA Medical School (FCM|NMS), Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (UNL), at Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, 130, 1169 -056 Lisboa.

 

2 – Functional Content

The position involves the performance of duties inherent to the professional category of Senior Technician, as set out in the above-mentioned Regulation, including, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Synthesis and characterization of biological nanosystems
  2. Evaluation of the therapeutical efficiency of biological nanosystems in in vitro models
  3. Preparation of laboratory reagents and maintenance of stock supplies
  4. Preparation of reports on the activities carried out

 

3 – Requirements of the Application

  1. Candidates may be Portuguese nationals, foreigners and stateless persons, who hold a Master’s degree in Biological Engineering or related field, with a scientific and professional curriculum that demonstrates an appropriate profile for the activities to be carried out.

Candidates holding qualifications obtained abroad must provide proof of recognition, equivalence, or registration of the degree, under the applicable legislation. This requirement must be fulfilled before the date of the employment contract.

 

4 – Application Submission

4.1. Applications must include the following documents:

i)            Motivation Letter;

ii)           Detailed curriculum vitae in accordance with the application requirements;

iii)          Copy of the Certificate of QualificationsWhere the academic degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be formally recognised by a Portuguese higher education institution, in accordance with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, published in the Official Gazette (Diário da República), 1st series, no. 157, of 16 August 2018. In the absence of such recognition at the time of application, a statement under honour commitment may be submitted, whereby the applicant undertakes to present the recognition by the date of the effective commencement of the employment contract. All legally required formalities must be fully completed by that date, under penalty of non-contractualisation should the respective documentation not be submitted by the date of granting.

vi)          A completed application form;

v)           Other documents relevant to the assessment of the adequacy of the requested profile.

4.2. The Curriculum Vitae must include: 

a) The full name of the candidate;

b) All relevant information for the assessment of the application considering the selection criteria set out in this Notice. It is recommended that the CV be organized according to the evaluation criteria listed below.

4.4. Applications, written in Portuguese or English, along with the required documents, must be submitted within 10 working days from the day following the publication of this Notice in the Diário da República. Applications should be sent via email, referencing the job title in the subject line, to the following address: recrutamento.investigacao@nms.unl.pt. The application deadline is at 24:00 (midnight, Portugal time) on the last day of the submission period.

4.5. Failure to comply with the application submission deadline, as well as the failure to submit or the late submission of the documents mentioned in the above points, will result in exclusion from the process. The decision of exclusion will be communicated to candidates via email for the purpose of conducting a hearing of the interested parties, in accordance with Articles 121 and following of the Administrative Procedure Code (CPA). False statements made by candidates will be penalized under the law. Once the deadline for exercising the right to a hearing has expired, the Jury will consider the arguments presented and, if it upholds the exclusion decision, will notify the excluded candidates via email, initiating the application of the selection methods to the admitted candidates.

 

5 – Selection Methods

5.1. The selection methods are the assessment of the «scientific and curricular path» weighted at 70% and a «professional selection interview» weighted at 30%.

5.2. The application of the selection methods will be phased as outlined below.
5.3. The evaluation of the «scientific and curricular path» will focus on the relevance, quality, timeliness, specific knowledge, and proven experience based on the submitted documents, according to the following criteria:

a) Relevance of the dissertation to the objectives of the dissertation – 20%

b) Previous experience on Nanotechnology – 25%

c) Previous experience on in vitro cell models – 25%

5.4. The evaluation of the «scientific and curricular path» is expressed on a numerical scale from 0 to 20.

5.5. The evaluation process includes a "professional selection interview," aiming to gather clarifications and explanations regarding the elements contained in the application.

5.6. In the «professional selection interview», which lasts up to 20 minutes, the following parameters and evaluation criteria will be applied:

a)     Candidate motivation (50%) based on the following criteria:
I.         Exclusive work and immediate availability;
II.        Leadership and team management, communication skills, teamwork, and cooperation.
III.       Proactivity, autonomy, and time management.

b)    Overall assessment (AG) (50%) based on the following criteria:
I.         Advanced proficiency in English, both oral and written;
II.        Expertise in the scientific field for which the call is open - Nanotechnology

 

5.7. The evaluation of the «professional selection interview» is expressed on a numerical scale from 0 to 20 points.

5.8. The evaluation method using a «professional selection interview» may be waived by unanimous and duly justified decision of the Jury, in which case the evaluation of the «scientific and curricular path» will have a weighting of 100%.
5.9. The Jury deliberates through a justified nominal vote in accordance with the evaluation criteria, and abstentions are not permitted.
5.10. The final classification of each candidate shall be obtained by calculating the average of the scores awarded by each member of the Selection Committee. To be selected, the candidate must obtain a final score equal to or higher than a 15 points. In the event of a tie, the tie-breaking decision shall be made by the Chair of the Selection Committee. 

5.11. Without prejudice to the provisions of the previous paragraph, under the terms of Decree-Law 29/2001, of 3 February, candidates with disabilities are given preference in the event of equal classification, which prevails over any other legal preference. Candidates must declare in the motivation letter, under oath, the degree of disability, type of disability, and the means of communication/expression to be used in the selection process.

5.12. The results of the evaluation will be notified to the candidates, who, if they so wish, may express their opinion for the purposes of holding a hearing of interested parties, under the terms of Article 121 et seq. of the Code of Administrative Procedure.

2nd Effective Member: Bárbara Bruna da Silva Mendes, Investigadora Auxiliar Convidada, Área Académica de Biomedicina, Faculdade de Ciências Médicas|NOVA Medical School, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa;

The Jury's deliberations are taken by reasoned nominal vote in accordance with the selection criteria adopted and disclosed, with no abstentions allowed.

  1. Remuneration Positioning

The remuneration level will be negotiated with the employer, according to the worker’s profile and experience, pursuant to Article 22(2) of the Regulation (in accordance with the tables in Annexes II and III), with a maximum limit corresponding to remuneration level 16A.

 

8 – participation of Interested parties and Decision 

7.1. The draft ranking list is notified to candidates by email, for comments as part of the hearing process, in accordance with Article 121 and following of the Administrative Procedure Code.
7.2. After the hearing period, the Jury reviews the arguments presented and approves the final ranking list of approved candidates.
7.3. The final decision of the Jury is ratified by the Director of FCM|NMS, who is also responsible for the hiring decision.

 

9 – Application Deadline 

The recruitment and selection process is open for the submission of applications from 16/03/2026 until 23/03/2026, (six (6) working days after publication in the newspaper Público). Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. (Lisbon time) on the final day.

10.1. This Notice is published in the Público newspaper, as well as on the Euraxess website https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/ and on the website of NOVA Medical School|Faculty of Medical Sciences. 

10.2 Any matters not expressly provided for herein are governed by Regulation no. 577/2017 of 13 October.
