Offer Description
The Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, within the Agrobiodiversity Research Group, is hiring a Junior Researcher and invites all interested candidates to apply.
Conducting research in the field of early detection of the health status of plants using remote sensing under the mentorship of Dr. Uroš Žibrat.
The young researcher will participate in the development of methods for the early detection of biotic and abiotic plant stress using remote sensing data acquired with unmanned aerial vehicles and multi-sensor systems.
The tasks will include:
- planning and conducting field and aerial data acquisition using LiDAR, RGB, multispectral, and hyperspectral sensor systems mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles,
- processing and analyzing LiDAR point clouds and generating 3D representations of plants and habitats,
- developing procedures for the fusion of LiDAR and multi-/hyperspectral data and preparing aligned multimodal datasets,
- developing indicators and features for the pre-symptomatic detection of changes in the physiological status of plants,
- developing, training, validating, and comparing predictive machine learning and deep learning models,
- applying explainable artificial intelligence approaches to interpret model results and assess the contribution of individual input variables,
- performing statistical analysis of results and evaluating model performance under different acquisition conditions and across different types of plant communities,
- programming and automating analytical workflows in Python and R, and integrating these workflows with commercial software tools for spatial data processing.
