Offer Description
Summary: There is an open call for one (1) Research Scholarship (“Bolsa de Investigação”) at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of project AcornSelectAI. This work is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), through the Innovation and Digital Transition Programme (COMPETE 2030) of the Portugal 2030 framework [Project AcornSelectAI with Nr. 21144 (COMPETE2030-FEDER-02202800)].

Work Objectives: In terms of deep learning architectures for object detection, particular attention will be given to the analysis of performance with respect to the amount of annotated data available, not only in terms of the number of instances, but also in terms of the variability factors included in the learning and test sets. Hence, the plan for this research work is divided into the following phases: 1) Collaboration in annotating a set of data, with a view to creating learning sets for Machine Learning models. 2) Evaluation of performance with respect to the amount of annotated data available and of the data variability factors included in the learning and test sets. 3) Optimization of parameters and hyperparameters for the selected model and configuration. 4) Report writing and scientific publication, describing the developed approach.
Place of work: The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Prof. Hugo Pedro Martins Carriço Proença.
Duration: 12 months, with the possibility of renewal. This type of scholarship has a maximum duration of 4 years. Start date: July 2026 or soon thereafter.

Research Grants (BI):

Additional Information
Monthly salary: The scholarship amount is €1,509.64, of which €1,309.64 is according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ), with a supplement of €200 per month. The payment will be made by bank transfer.
Candidates must hold an MSc degree in Informatics, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Mathematics of affine area and meet the conditions to be enrolled in a cycle of studies leading to the PhD degree.

Curricular evaluation, that includes:
1- Master of science mark (30%);
2- Previous experience in topics of knowledge related to project scope (70%);
