This position involves teaching activities, like seminars, practical works, and practical applications according to the position, drawing up education plans, analytical programs, and discipline files for the disciplines in the position, guiding year projects, undergraduate and dissertation works, participating in committees of admission and license, assessment and tutoring activities, consultations, guidance student scientific circles, participate in councils and commissions in the interest of the educational process, other activities organized for the promotion of faculties and the university, research activities, as well as those specified in the job description. Related to the job requirements, the conditions the candidates must meet are mentioned: the number and quality of articles published in journals in general cell biology and biochemistry.

This position involves teaching activities (seminary and practical work) of the subjects in the Hungarian language in the following topics:

Candidates shall demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to apply: the concepts, principles, and methods specific to the fields, necessary for designing, organizing, and conducting practical teaching activities and field work, in accordance with the content of the courses included in the position structure and the competition syllabus. 

Candidate must also demonstrate: 

  • the ability to organize and conduct practical classes, including the preparation of teaching materials, reagents, and laboratory infrastructure
  • the  ability to apply and convey experimental methods, to guide students in carrying out experiments and interpreting results
  • skills in assessing students' performance during practical classes
  • compliance with safety regulations, ethics, and good laboratory practice
  • the ability to integrate interdisciplinary knowledge and use modern educational technologies

Mandatory conditions that candidates must meet: Holding a doctoral degree in the field of the position for which the candidate is applying (Biology). A candidate applying for a vacant position must have a scientific record consistent with the specified scientific field and the description of the position for which they are applying, respectively, with the research specialization stated in the competition announcement.

According to the Competition Methodology for Filling Vacant Teaching and Research Positions at Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj Napoca (HS 37/10.03.2025), Atr. 11 (1), (3), (5), candidates must cumulatively meet one of the following  alternative minimum standards:

a., being author/co-author of 4 scientific works (articles/book chapters/books) indexed in WoS/Scopus/ErihPlus (for articles) or published by prestigious publishing houses in Romania or abroad (for chapters/books); for at least two of these works, the candidate must be the lead author;
b) being author/co-author of a publication in Science or Nature, or lead author of a publication ranked in the
Top 10 in the field; as scientometric references, the article influence score according to WoS - Journal Citation Report is used, and for the humanities, the categories in the Art &Humanities area according to SCImago Journal Rank are used; the influence score refers to the year of publication.
Note:
Lead author status is defined according to the standards of each field, and in the field of BIOLOGY, the lead author is considered to be the first author, corresponding author, and last author of the scientific publication indexed in WoS/Scopus/ErihPlus.


An article published in a Top 10 journal in the field is considered equivalent to 4 articles indexed in recognized international databases. This equivalence applies to the alternative scientific criterion under letter a).


According to the Competition Methodology for Filling Vacant Teaching and Research Positions at Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (HS 37/10.03.2025), Art. 17 (1) f), the competition committee shall evaluate candidates from the perspective of the following aspects: 

  • the relevance and impact of the candidate’s scientific results in relation to the field of the courses included in the position for which they are applying.
  • the candidate’s ability to supervise students or young researchers;
  • the candidate’s teaching skills, for positions that include teaching activities;
  • the candidate’s ability to transfer their knowledge and results to the economic or social environment or to popularize their own scientific results;
  • the candidate’s ability to work in a team and the effectiveness of their scientific collaborations, depending on the specifics of the candidate’s field;
  • the candidate’s ability to lead research and development projects;
  • the candidate’s professional experience in institutions other than the institution organizing the competition;
     

During the evaluation, the principles set out in the European Framework for Research Careers shall be taken into account.


The position includes seminary and laboratory practice courses taught exclusively in Hungarian.

The position involves teaching activities and supporting teaching and research in line with the curriculum's course structure and the department's needs. 

  1. Teaching activities:
  • Preparation, organization, and delivery of practical classes in the following subjects:
  • Training students in the use of laboratory techniques and equipment, including: setting up an invertebrate collection, and maintaining experimental methods in entomology and invertebrate biology, hydrochemistry, and hydrophysics, handling laboratory equipment suitable for biological samples conservation and preservation
  • Guiding students in carrying out scientific collections and identifications, experiments, interpreting results, and writing laboratory reports,
  • Continuous and final assessment of students' performance in practical classes (tests, reports, colloquials) in 

Biology Basics, Invertebrate Zoology, Entomology, Hydrobiology, Field Practice in Botany and Zoology, 

- development and updating of teaching materials for practical classes (experimental protocols, worksheets, digital materials)

2. Teaching support activities:

  • participation in tutoring, consultation, and academic guidance activities,
  • involvement in the development and updating of course content and teaching methodologies
  • use of digital educational platforms for communicating and teaching

3. Research activities:

  • participation in scientific research activities in the fields of cell and molecular biology. biochemistry and biophysics.
  • involvement in research projects and publication of results in specialized journals.

4. Administrative and institutional activities:

  • participation in the organization activities of the department and faculty
  • contribution to the organization and conduct of examinations, colloquia, and other academic activities

5. Compliance with laboratory regulations and professional ethics:

  • ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations in the laboratory
  • proper use of equipment, reagents, and materials,
  • compliance with academic ethics and good scientific practice standards.

Selection process

Selection process


For university assistant positions, the competition consists of:
1. Evaluation of the individual application file;
2. a public oral examination;
3. a written examination.


The oral examination consists of presenting a seminar/laboratory/practical class project, on a topic established by the selection committee in accordance with Art. 17 para. (1) letter b) of the competition methodology. The individual application file, the oral examination, and the written examination each carry equal weight in the final grade awarded in the individual evaluation report prepared by each member of the selection committee.


In evaluating scientific activity, account shall be taken of the quality of the publications and the candidates’ contributions in relation to the requirements laid down in the teaching workload.


The selection committee establishes, based on the competition syllabus and bibliography, the topic of the oral examination presentation and communicates it to the candidates 48 hours before the examination, by e-mail and by posting it on the faculty’s website, indicating the date and time of posting, under the signature of the chair of the selection committee.
The written examination consists of assessing the candidates’ theoretical knowledge and their capacity for analysis and synthesis in the field of the subjects included in the structure of the position.
The examination is conducted in the form of a written test, based on the announced syllabus, and may include:
essay-type topics, aimed at the structured presentation of concepts, processes, and mechanisms included in the announced competition syllabus; applied questions, aimed at interpreting experimental situations and biological or technological processes included in the announced syllabus; analysis and integration items, requiring the correlation of knowledge from several disciplines included in the teaching load of the position, in accordance with the announced syllabus.


The duration of the written examination is 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Topics of the competition tests: 
1. Natural systematics of invertebrates, main taxonomic categories, current methods of zootaxonomy, and the role of morphological characters
2. Major invertebrate groups from the phylum Arthropoda, morphological characters, and adaptations to different living environments
3. Major invertebrate groups with practical applications in assessing the biological quality of inland waters.
4. Important invertebrate species for the conservation and protection of natural ecosystems in Romania – recognition, and practical applications
5. Typology of continental waters
6. Common techniques in the preparation and preservation of insects, criteria for the composition of scientific collections
