Offer Description
The Institute Sant Joan de Deu and Hospital Sant Joan de Deu in Barcelona are reference centers for the study and treatment of pediatric cancer. The Institute of Oncology of Asturias (IUOPA) at University of Oviedo constitutes a reference center in cancer genomics and precision medicine in oncology. Both institutes have established a collaboration to improve pediatric hematologic cancer research through the use of cancer genomics and novel molecular approaches in order to better understand the molecular mechanisms driving tumor development, relapse, resistance to therapy, and the identification of potential therapeutic opportunities in these tumors.
IUOPA’s main headquarter is located at the University of Oviedo School of Medicine, Oviedo.
We are looking for a highly motivated Predoctoral Researcher for the Molecular Biology of Cancer group led by Dr. Xose S Puente at the University of Oviedo School of Medicine.
RESEARCH DESCRIPTION
Genomic Characterization of Pediatric Leukemia
This doctoral project will focus on the genomic characterization of pediatric leukemias in order to identify the genomic alterations driving the transformation and evolution of the disease. The project will try to understand how specific mutations lead to the expansion of specific hematopoietic progenitors, to identify molecular pathways promoting or inhibiting the development of specific hematological cell types.
The project will involve the use of state-of-the-art technologies, including whole genome and whole transcriptome sequencing, single cell sequencing, validations through CRISPR editing in cell lines and/or mouse models,…. The results derived from this thesis will contribute to better understanding pediatric leukemias and identifying mechanisms that could be useful in the management of these patients.
