Offer Description
An opening is hereby announced for the award of 1 post-doctoral research fellowship, within the scope of the project DAEDALUS European Research Council Consolidator Grant (ID 101169975) IST-ID (1801P.01700.1.01.01), funded by European funds (HORIZON EUROPE
Work plan: The work plan of this post-doctoral research fellowship focuses on the study of the inner ear of extant and fossil animals, as well as on the preparation, conservation, and analysis of Permian, Triassic, and Jurassic paleontological material, with the aim of contributing to a better understanding of the origin of endothermy throughout tetrapod evolution. The work will begin with a literature review, technical training, and methodological preparation, including the comparative anatomical study of extant and extinct specimens, the use of imaging and digital reconstruction techniques, and the laboratory preparation of fossils for observation and detailed analysis. At a later stage, inner ear structures with potential functional and physiological significance will be studied, seeking to relate their morphology to patterns of balance, hearing, metabolism, and thermophysiology. In parallel, paleontological material from the Permian, Triassic, and Jurassic intervals will be prepared and analysed systematically, in order to integrate anatomical, phylogenetic, and paleoecological information within a broad evolutionary framework. It is expected that this work will generate new data on the evolution of the inner ear and on the transformations associated with the origin of endothermy, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in paleontology, comparative anatomy, and functional evolution
Duration of the fellowship(s): The fellowship will have a duration of 36 months, with an expected start in December 2026. The fellowship contract may be renewed up to the maximum duration of the funding project.
Applications must be formalised, mandatorily, by sending the following documents: i) Form B1 – Application for Research Fellowship (https://ist-id.pt/concursos/bolsas/ ), ii) Curriculum Vitae; iii) qualification certificate; iv) motivation letter.
