The position is associated with the research project:

“SISTEMA DE OCLUSION PARA EL ENTRENAMIENTO Y LA EVALUACION CLINICA NO INVASIVA DEL SISTEMA DE TRANSPORTE DE OXIGENO Y LA BIOENERGETICA MITOCONDRIAL: PROCESO DE CERTIFICACION”

  • Project Reference: PDC2025-165723-100
  • Funding Entity: Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICINN)
  • Project End Date: 31/01/2028

The contract is permanent, financed until the end date of the research project. The successful candidate will split their time between the Integrated Manufacturing Building (Science and Technology Park, Tafira Campus) and the Human Performance Laboratory (Physical Education Building).

Main Responsibilities

The selected candidate will provide support in the development of the following project work packages and specific tasks:

  • WP2: Technical optimization of the occlusion subsystem
    • Redesigning the mechanical structure to integrate valves, pressure sensors, control units, and compressors into a compact, robust module to optimize form factor, mechanical performance, durability, and safety for industrial-scale manufacturing.
  • WP4: Definition of the regulatory roadmap and pre-certification strategy for the occlusion module
    • Identifying applicable regulatory requirements and device classification according to the European framework based on its intended use and mechanical components.
    • Developing a tailored certification roadmap detailing risk management, design verification, validation planning, and usability standards.
    • Planning early verification, safety mechanism validation, usability testing protocols, and defining ethical considerations for clinical evaluation.
    • Compiling and structuring the subsystem's technical documentation to comply with quality management systems and conducting internal regulatory readiness reviews.
  • WP7: Design transfer and pre-industrial validation
    • Adapting the prototype design for industrial manufacturing (Design for Manufacturing - DfM), material selection, part standardization, tolerance analysis, and cost/complexity reduction.
    • Identifying suppliers and manufacturing partners, evaluating lead times, costs, and scalability for series production.
    • Assembling a pre-series prototype with industrial-grade components, validating the assembly workflow, and documenting quality control procedures.
    • Conducting stress tests, accelerated aging simulations, and reliability trials to ensure long-term performance under intensive use.
