Offer Description

The Dean of the Faculty of History, with the consent of the Rector of the University of Warsaw, announces a competition for the position of assistant professor (post-doc, R2, F/M) in the NCN OPUS 29 project “Military General Governorship Lublin 1915-1918 – structures, people, policy”.

The aim of the project is to examine the functioning of the Austro-Hungarian occupation authorities in the Kingdom of Poland (the General Military Governorate of Lublin) between 1915 and 1918, including:
- organizational structures
- the legal order
- staff composition
- the shaping and implementation of occupation policy (including economic aspects)
- efforts to adapt occupation policy to prevailing realities
- the influence of the human factor on the enforcement of the occupation order
- relations between the occupied population and the occupiers ( including the mutual perception of these groups)
- political and everyday life in the occupied territories
- political and criminal violence
- corruption and the black market
- the perception and assessment of Austro-Hungarian occupation policy by the Polish public and German allies

Skills/Qualifications

– Fulfilment of the requirements set out in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, consolidated text)
– academic achievements in the field of the First Worls War;
– obtaining a doctoral degree no earlier than 12 years prior to the year of employment (taking into account documented career breaks, in accordance with the appendix to the NCN Council resolution);
– doctorate obtained outside the University of Warsaw; in the case of a doctorate obtained at the University of Warsaw, a documented postdoctoral internship of at least 10 months outside Poland is required;
– communicative knowledge of German and English.

– experience in creating digital databases
– experience in creating popular science podcasts
If hired, we expect the University of Warsaw to be the primary workplace for the successful candidate.

Benefits

PLN 140,000 gross/yearly (including 13th-month bonus, seniority allowance, employer's Social Security contributions, Employee Pension Plan contributions, and taxes).

Selection process

Stage I: 60 points
– Assessment of preparation/qualifications relevant to the position based on previous scientific activity: 30 points.
– Assessment of the compatibility of scientific plans with the project: 20 points.
– Assessment of scientific experience (publications, participation in conferences, presentations, etc.): 10 points.
A maximum of 60 points in total from each member of the selection committee; candidates who obtain an average score of over 30 points will be invited for an interview.
Stage II: 40 points
The following will be assessed on the basis of the presentation and interview: compatibility of the proposed research topic with the objectives of the project; conduct of the interview (40)
