Offer Description

Position level : A

Employment establishment : Université du Mans, Avenue Olivier Messiaen, 72085 LE MANS CEDEX 9

Research laboratory : LPG - Le Mans -UMR CNRS 6112

Job : Searcher (The standard job description can be consulted at this link, on pages 1738 et seq., under reference FPRCH007. This document details the main tasks associated with the occupation, as well as the skills, interpersonal abilities and special features that may be required.

Description of the research subject

The DEEPICE project aims to develop an automated workflow combining glacial geomorphology, remote sensing, DEM analysis and deep learning to detect and analyse subglacial bedforms at large scale. The resulting database will support reconstructions of former ice-sheet dynamics, ice-flow patterns and meltwater pathways, with the Laurentide Ice Sheet as a proof of concept.

Planning research project

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to: (i) selecting and preprocessing DEM and satellite datasets (ArcticDEM, Sentinel/Landsat or equivalents); (ii) building and documenting a training/validation dataset from annotated subglacial bedforms; (iii) designing, training, optimizing and assessing deep-learning detection/segmentation models; (iv) producing a database of outlines and morphometric parameters for subglacial bedforms across sectors of the Laurentide Ice Sheet; (v) carrying out spatial and multivariate analyses for palaeoglaciological interpretation.

Assigned activities and expected results

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to:

- selecting and preprocessing DEM and satellite datasets (ArcticDEM, Sentinel/Landsat or equivalents);

- building and documenting a training/validation dataset from annotated subglacial bedforms;

- designing, training, optimizing and assessing deep-learning detection/segmentation models;

- producing a database of outlines and morphometric parameters for subglacial bedforms across sectors of the Laurentide Ice Sheet;
